The two stories of today, one from the Hebrew Scriptures and the other from the Christian Scriptures, help us to understand the wisdom which underscores the Church’s opposition to the death penalty. Susanna, falsely accused by two wicked judges, was nearly executed until God stirred the heart of young Daniel to intercede on her behalf.
